The hotel was first built in 1889 and over the years has been slowly renovated to what it is today. Domenic Calabria had the hotel for many years and built the upstairs function room overlooking the Gulf St Vincent.

The current Lessee and her partner took over the leasehold & business of the hotel in September 2019. They have spent a considerable amount of money and time upgrading the downstairs area of the hotel, with a new entrance specifically for the pokie room, a new sports bar area incorporating the TAB, along with modern furniture and decor and an upgrade of the kitchen.

The hotel has a massive area to draw on for their clientele, which incorporates the Northern suburbs of Adelaide. The new expressway recently completed has opened up the area with St Kilda, now being only 20 minutes from the Adelaide CBD and half an hour to the Barossa Valley.

St Kilda is recognized as having one of the best Adventure playgrounds, and is a large draw card for families on the weekends and during school holidays. The playground is at the rear of the hotel.
 

The Walker Corporation is creating a massive housing development at Buckland Park which is proposed to include 15,300 dwellings. To date it is understood that approximately 800 blocks have been sold and the works have commenced. This area is approximately 10 minutes from St Kilda.
